Announced at the Taste of the West Awards in Bristol, The Udder Farm Shop beat out stiff competition across the West Country to be named Best Farm Shop in the South West.
At an event celebrating the best of food and drink in the South West, Lynn Solman, Assistant Manager, and Kevin Hooper, Butchery Manager, picked up the top accolade having already been awarded a Taste of the West Gold back in July.
At the time it was noted that The Udder Farm Shop was a classic, country farmhouse offering great service with polite, good humoured and knowledgeable staff selling tasty, great quality produce that is beautifully presented with extensive local sourcing. On hearing about winning, owners Brian and Jane Down were over the moon.
Brian said, ‘We’ve made it our mission to offer the very best in quality, traceability and service from the very beginning and to have the farm shop recognised for them by ‘The Taste of the West’ is wonderful news. I’m particularly proud of all our staff, who work extremely hard to make sure our customers have an enjoyable visit from the moment they enter the shop.’
Jane adds, ‘Since opening back in 2005, it has always been our hope that we can work with the local community to provide a friendly place to visit where they can get a weekly shop, safe in the knowledge that all their food has been sourced in a responsible and sustainable manner. Our butchery is particularly traceable, with all our beef coming from our own farm, as well as a large percentage of pork and lamb. All other meat is sourced from family and friends. It’s great that all the hard work has paid off and that such a vocal supporter of the South West food industry has recognised this.’
